Shelby Brown 5, waits as her brother outs bullets in their Nerf Gun. Shelby was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth and is now a kindergarten student at Briarwood Elementary. "Shelby has the biggest will to succeed, she wants to thrive and meet her goals," Le Ann Sparks said. Shelby is the youngest in the family with Father Adam, mom Le Ann and brother Gavin.

Shelby gets ready for bed with mom Le ann. "We try to have a good routine we brush teeth, wash her face and then read books until she falls asleep," Le Ann said. "But every night is different."

Shelby refuses to follow mom Le Ann to her brothers baseball game. People like to describe Shelby as someone who knows what she wants. "She is very smart, stubborn, but very smart," Le Ann said.

Shelby waits for her attendant, Dayna Lamothe, to come and help her throw away her trash from lunch. Shelby has been attending briarwood for 3 years. "Everyone lights up when they see Shelby," Lamothe said. Shelby has learned a lot from being at school "she has learned to take and follow directions from multiple people other than me," Le Ann said.

Shelby chases after one of the families three dogs during family photos. Shelby has been growing in many ways "she has been learning what it is to be apart of something besides just her family," Le Ann said.

Shelby rests her head on one of the families dogs, while watching her brother play video games after getting home from school. The family tries to hang out whenever they get a chance, "our lives gets so busy between Gavin's baseball and Shelby's therapy and school," Le Ann said.

Shelby hugs brother Gavin, 10 after the family dinner. Gavin also known as "bubba" has been a supportive role in Selby's life. "Both of my kids have impacted my life drastically, Gavin loves his little sister," Le Ann said.

Mother Le Ann tries to feed Shelby Cheerios, during dinner. Le Ann has rules for dinner Shelby has to finish all of her meal and can not be "ugly", which in this case she was breaking the rules.

One of Shelby's favorite pass times is playing with her dolls where she cooks food and hosts tea parties. "Shelby can make any smile, and yes I mean anyone," Le Ann said.

When Le Ann had Shelby she knew that her who world was about to change. However Le Ann and husband Adam realized that their life was changing for the better. "Shelby opened my eyes to a different world, she has brought patience to my world," Le Ann said. "Shelby has taught me that it's okay to be exactly who we are."
